If you have difficulties with hvclock, there is now an option to have verbose debugging messages:

Double window bug

If you have two windows when starting hvclock:

Right-click in the square window title bar and select "Attributes...":

Select "Application Specific" in the pull-down menu at the top:

Enable "Start hidden", and click on "Save", "Apply" and finally "Reload", and the bug should be worked around:
